• Auxiliary Machinery Management: Directly oversees critical systems, including diesel generators, main and auxiliary boilers, and fuel/lube oil purifiers.
• Fuel and Lubricants: Manages the ship's fuel and lubricant inventory, monitors consumption, and conducts fuel transfers or bunkering operations.
• Auxiliary Support Systems: Maintains sewage treatment plants, fresh water generators, air compressors, and incinerators.
• Watchkeeping: Stands independent engine room watches (typically 0000–0400 and 1200–1600), monitoring all running machinery and logging performance parameters.
