Machinery Rings (MR) are farmer-based self-help groups for providing farm mechanization service to small holder farmers. In Europe and Africa, Machinery Rings are registered as associations which are operated by a professional manager. Machinery Rings enable their members to use modern technology and participate in mechanization and technical progress without having to take the risk of unprofitable investments. On the other hand, they improve the utilization of existing technology in inter-farm use. In addition, farmers are trained in agriculture management tools by the MR staff.
With the support of the German Maschinenring Foundation and funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture, a three-year project has started in January 2026 with the target to initiate farmer self-help organizations as Machinery Rings Kenya.
