:Basic phonological concepts; current problems in phonological research; the goals of phonological theory; fundamentals of theoretical and experimental phonology.

This course looks at the various formal models that have been proposed to account for phonological patterns and processes since the development of generative phonology and introduces important theoretical developments since the beginning of the 21st century (post-OT constraint-based models, computation in phonology, emergentist models, laboratory phonology).
The goal of the course is to familiarize graduate students with essential concepts in phonology so that they can read and understand current phonological literature.
