Responsibilities The keeping of a safe navigational watch as Watch Officer, as directed by the Captain and guided by applicable company procedures and standing orders. The safe and efficient execution of cargo operations, loading and stability, stowage and securing, ballast (in accordance with the Ballast Management Plan) and anchoring operations. Security of watertight compartments and maintenance of all external aspects of the vessel. Ensuring that the Captain is informed immediately of any condition or incident that arises as per standing instructions. Ensuring that no major action will be undertaken or executed without informing the Captain or, where applicable, the Superintendent and Chief Engineer. Directing the Bosun / AB Seamen and organizing the planned maintenance of the vessel and mechanical equipment in areas under his jurisdiction (The Chief Officer should liaise with the Captain and the Chief Engineer in this respect).
