A CNC machine operator, or CNC operator, is responsible for the daily operations of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines. Their duties include:

• Planning: Studying blueprints, work orders, and engineering plans to plan machining
• Setting up: Installing and adjusting tools, chucks, and attachments
• Programming: Entering instructions into mills and lathes
• Operating: Running the CNC machine to cut, trim, and shape materials
• Maintaining: Performing preventive maintenance and ensuring the machine is in good working order
• Inspecting: Checking the machinery and identifying parts that need repair
• Documenting: Completing production and quality logs
