Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) is the major provider of health and residential aged care services in the Wellington Shire. CGHS serve an immediate population of 42,000 in Central Gippsland, while acute specialist services reach a wider community in East Gippsland. Central Gippsland Health Service has more than 110 acute beds; approximately 180 high and low care residential aged care beds, as well as 15 independent living units. Acute services, situated at Sale, Maffra and Heyfield, include a 24-hour, seven day a week emergency department, operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services.
