(What the role is)

The Waste Management Division (WMD) is responsible for the regulation of the waste collection industry, the Public Waste Collection scheme, general waste disposal facilities, the Extended Producer Responsibility, Disposable Carrier Bag Charge, Mandatory Packaging and Waste Reporting schemes. It also enforces against illegal dumping activities. Through these programmes, WMD aims to achieve an efficient and sustainable waste-to-resource management system in Singapore.
The Producer Responsibility Department (PRD) oversees the development, administration and regulation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Schemes for waste streams such as E-waste and packaging waste, as well as the Disposable Carrier Bag Charge and Mandatory Packaging Reporting scheme.
