Offer Description

The Center for Research in Economic Development (CRED) at the University of Namur invites applications for a PhD position in economics under the supervision of Professor Catherine Guirkinger. The position is funded by the (Belgium) and is expected to start in September 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Funding is secured for the full duration of the PhD (4 years, with an initial 2year contract).

The PhD student will contribute to a research project examining the recent large-scale conversion movementparticularly among womento New Christian churches in SubSaharan Africa. The project explores the hypothesis that conversion is, at least in part, motivated by women seeking economic emancipation within a constraining social order, with specific attention to the intra-household dynamics underlying these choices.
