Known for its historical role during the Mexican Revolution, because it is the place where the Plan de Ayala was signed in 1911, the village of Ayoxuxtla was severely damaged by the 2017 earthquake. For this reason, the SEDATU decided to build a new square, a school, and a health center, and to restore the museum as a tribute to Emiliano Zapata, marking the 110 years of the signing of the document.
The project creates a large public square that connects with the town’s central plaza and extends under a colossal roof that serves as multipurpose space for cultural, educational, and sports events, and is rounded off with an open football field. The six new elementary school classrooms are located on the sides of this space, as well as the restored museum and a volume with a public library and mediatheque. A dining room with a community kitchen has also been added.
