Definition

To perform a variety of semi?skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; lubricate and perform routine service work on diesel and gasoline?powered vehicles; maintain tires on the bus fleet; and perform related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor; receives technical guidance from journey?level mechanics. No supervision is exercised over others.

Examples of Duties

• Lubricate and oil buses and automobiles.
• Perform routine servicing and minor repair work on buses and automobiles.
• Check conditions of batteries, tires, lights, and horns.
• Identify any major or complex mechanical difficulty and report findings to the supervisor.
• Rotate and switch tires; repair flat tires on all equipment in the yard.
• Keep records of service operations.
