Foreperson duties and responsibilities

A foreperson, or foreman, directs and supervises construction workers at a construction site. They often also coordinate the activities of independent contractors, such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians.

Common duties include:

• Coordinating daily tasks in accordance with project priorities and plans
• Adjusting daily work plans due to weather, delayed supplies or staffing issues
• Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors
• Recruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractors
• Providing adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needs
