**Position Summary** : The Geriatric Nurse Specialist (GNS) assesses, promotes and contributes to the quality of nursing care provided to patients and their families/support systems throughout the hospital continuum. The GNS provides clinical leadership through advanced practice role-modeling and professional communication. Specialization in nursing practice includes in-depth graduate study of relevant theories and scientific knowledge related to a select patient population which promotes the ability to analyze and refine nursing practice and to generate nursing knowledge. In collaboration with the health care team, the GNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical expertise to improve patient care and patient outcomes.
