Job Description
Join Alto as a Legal Counsel specializing in Indigenous relations to support transformative projects across Canada. You'll collaborate with the Indigenous Engagement team, promoting meaningful consultations and legal support for Indigenous Peoples.
In this pivotal role, you will work from one of Alto's offices in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, or Ottawa. Your experience in Indigenous and constitutional law will guide negotiations with Indigenous groups on agreements that enhance community relations. You will also advise internal teams on the Crown's duty to consult and navigate the legal landscape impacting Indigenous communities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Draft and negotiate agreements with Indigenous groups
• Advise on Aboriginal and treaty rights and claims
• Provide insights on legal requirements for consultation
• Guide teams on land claim agreements and consultation protocols
• Travel to Indigenous communities as needed
