Junior Researcher (PhD) in Design for the Planetary Design of Service Systems in the Design & Services Research Community

We invite applications for a fully funded PhD position for three years focusing on the planetary design of service systems. For design to develop and remain relevant, it is essential to acknowledge planetary and life‑centred needs that challenge not only design but also service production and delivery, and consumption as a whole. The role of service designers has traditionally been to advocate for human‑centredness, usability, accessibility, functionality and logic in service delivery. The doctoral research investigates the transformation that is needed when the scope of service systems design is shifted into a planetary approach. The place of work is at the Faculty of Art and Design of the University of Lapland where the candidate will be based full‑time during the employment relationship.
