Maintenance Mechanic

Summary The incumbent is a Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic whose duties include a wide variety of tasks involving specific and general installation, repair, improvement and maintenance skills in the Building Maintenance Shop as part of the Maintenance and Repair Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS), at East Orange/Lyons Campuses of VA New Jersey Health Care System (VA NJHCS). Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to the following: Performs daily inspections and repairs to assigned areas including ceiling structures, lighting fixtures, door closures, windows, floor tiles, and walls; reports deficiencies to the supervisor for appropriate disposition. Performs routine and complex installations using masonry, carpentry, and sheet metal skills; constructs and repairs existing structures from building plans, drawings, and verbal directions.
