Oiler

The Engine Rating (Oiler)

Responsible to the Second Engineer and Engine Officers for engine / machinery equipment in the Engine room.

The duties and responsibilities of the Oiler / Engine Rating includes, but are not limited to the following:

1. To assist the duty of Engine Officer and for repair / maintenance in the engine room.
2. The general cleanliness of engine room, paintwork plates and bilges.
3. If assigned as watch-keeper, responsible to the respective engineer of their watch for monitoring machinery, and/or general cleanliness as required.
4. If assigned on a day-work basis, responsible for maintenance, painting and general cleanliness of the engine room and other machinery spaces.
5. The cleanliness of their accommodation, comfort room and mess rooms.
6. Performing other duties, which may be assigned by the superiors.
