Postdoctoral researchers – National Oceanography Centre
Marine Physicists are part of TICTOC (Transient tracer-based Investigation of Circulation and Thermal Ocean Change), a funded NERC Large Grant that will ascertain the credibility of projections of regional ocean warming. Using a new approach pioneered in the modelling community, the strength and pattern of the net uptake of heat by the ocean (the ‘added heat’) that sets global mean sea level rise is treated like a passive tracer. Regionally, ocean heat content change is also substantially impacted by the redistribution of existing ocean heat due to changes in ocean circulation and air-sea fluxes. Understanding the added heat component in the contemporary ocean is key to predicting its future.
As a Marine Physicist (in MSM) you will focus on models, describing the varying temperature field through analysis of NEMO and other OMIP models. This will include adding the radioactive isotope tracer carbon-14 and id...
