Our research group, “Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery”, includes graduated researchers, PhD candidates, biostatisticians, administrator, and medical students. We conduct clinical and epidemiological research examining diseases and surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract, i.e. the oesophagus and stomach, with a focus on cancer and associated diseases and procedures. We are involved in international collaborations and networks. We have a structured approach to developing new studies, and run research seminar series, journal clubs, methods clubs and PhD courses. In the last external assessment of all research constellations at KI, our group was rated ‘Outstanding’ in cancer research, i.e. the highest score possible.
