Job Description

Primary Purpose

The radiation safety specialist develops, implements, and continuously improves radiation safety programs to align with regulatory requirements and institutional leading practices. The specialist provides technical expertise, practical assistance, and training to the university community where nuclear substances and radiation devices are used, and participates in emergency preparedness, lab safety programs, and safety committees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers radiation safety programs, services, and initiatives that support the safe and responsible use of nuclear substances, radiation devices, and Class II prescribed equipment
  • Provides technical expertise and timely advice to the university community in support of compliance and leading practices in radiation safety
  • Serves as backup for the designated radiation safety officer
