D6 Unit Profile

D6 is a 36‑bed unit that is an integral part of the Odette Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The main focus is caring for surgical oncology patients, including colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary, ENT/Head & Neck, urology, and general surgery.

The unit supports staff nurses in their professional growth and development. Nurses are mentored to pursue leadership roles such as team leaders, council chairs, preceptors, and committee members. A strength of the unit is quality improvement (QI); nurses collaborate with the interprofessional team on projects to enhance patient care and are coached to present QI projects locally, nationally, and internationally.
