Overview

The RAH ICU is a 29-bed unit characterized by high acuity and high occupancy, caring for critically ill patients from medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, neurosurgical, and trauma programs. The unit provides evidence-based services within an inter-disciplinary team model. Specialized services include acute ventilatory support, continuous and intermittent renal replacement for acute and chronic renal failure, and sepsis, therapeutic plasma exchange for hematological and auto‑immune disorders, and critical care support for the regional bariatric program. The Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams for the Royal Alexandra Hospital include nurses from the Intensive Care Unit. The RAH ICU focuses on continuous Quality Improvement, providing a supportive environment for staff and students, and delivering the best patient care possible.
