RIGGER

Summary You will serve as a RIGGER in the LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR. Responsibilities You will perform and direct placement, removal, or repositioning of machinery, structural members of ships or buildings, heavy equipment, or other loads, frequently working in conjunction with other mechanics. You will estimate weight and center of gravity of load to be moved; plan weight distribution and load maneuvering; brace, cushion, and otherwise prepare load; and attach appropriate lifting gear. You will direct operators of cranes or other weight handling equipment by standard signals. You will maneuver, tilt and control load as necessary, by means of attached lines and riggings, or direct others in these tasks. You will install beam clamps, gin poles, gallows frames, and other supporting structures; and use jacks, pulley blocks, chain falls, rollers, and similar equipment as necessary to move and position heavy items.
