Senior Legal Counsel – Litigation

Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Litigation to join the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) to support the safety camera programme. The role is a fixed‑term or secondment opportunity from early August through to late March 2027 and offers flexibility on location (Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal leadership across all aspects of the NZTA safety camera system.
• Deliver specialist legal advice (direct or outsourced) to NZTA’s Regulatory Services and the day‑to‑day safety camera programme operations.
• Support the enforcement policy, operational policies and processes within Regulatory Services.
• Manage and oversee prosecutions and other safety camera related matters outsourced to Crown Prosecutors.
• Establish relationships and ways of working with internal stakeholders and external law firms.
