Course description: This course will examine policy issues dealing with Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous communities in Canada. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to reimagine the federal system of governance as one which includes Indigenous governance models. Beginning with the origins of policy, Wampum Diplomacy and early treaty-making will be explored. The enduring impacts of the Indian Act on policy direction and Indigenous governance structures will be examined, along with issues relating to Indigenous identity, membership, and Indian Status....
