Position Summary

: Inclusive Practices for Sustainable Communities situates inclusive practices within interdependent ecological and social systems through critical reflexivity and embodied practice. Guided by seasonal and place-based teachers, including the community garden, lakes and rivers, the changing colours of leaves, the forest and pileated woodpecker, the robin, and the stillness of winter, students' revision social work practice in response to environmental change and systemic inequities. The course cultivates ecologically attuned, socially and racially just approaches to practice. Sustainability is approached as relational and collective, with attention to community making across physical and virtual spaces. More-than-human relations, embodied and enacted through nourishment, nurturing, and collective care, guide students in revisioning sustainable communities for the present and the future.
