A Steel Estimator is responsible for estimating the costs associated with steel construction projects. They analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other relevant documentation to accurately calculate material and labor costs. The role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to provide detailed, accurate, and competitive bids for steel fabrication and erection projects.
Responsibilities:
Project Evaluation: Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand the scope and requirements.
Quantity Takeoff: Calculate the quantities of steel materials required for the project.
Purchasing Coordination: Communicate with the purchasing department to obtain pricing on unique or special materials and availability for materials, and negotiate terms where necessary.
