**Description:**

**Position Purpose:**

The surgical technologist, using the principles of medical asepsis, prepares the operating room for surgical cases of all specialties and instruments the surgical procedures anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist provides care within the MercyOne North Iowa Standards of Care, AORN Standards of Care and Practice and the Operating Room Policies and Procedures.

**What you Will Do:**

+ Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.
+ Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice.
+ Assists in setting up rooms.
+ Secures safe transport of the patient if needed.
