SSE Thermal is responsible for the flexible generation subsidiary of SSE plc, focusing on flexible energy generation and storage assets including carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, energy-from-waste, energy storage and gas generation.

SSE Thermal seeks to become the leading provider of flexible thermal energy in a net zero world. Transforming high‑carbon generation assets to low‑carbon whilst ensuring a Just Transition for our people.

SSE Thermal's flexible and efficient gas‑fired generation will continue to play a critical role in the transition to a net zero future, providing reliable backup power and complementing renewable energy. However, we’ve committed to not constructing any further gas‑fired power stations without a clear route to decarbonisation and are actively seeking ways to decarbonise our current assets through cutting‑edge solutions such as CCS and hydrogen.
