Third Officer (Ottawa)

Overview

Designated officer for routine checking and maintenance of Lifesaving Appliances and Firefighting Equipment. Accurate and timely preparation of specific documentation as required for vessels’ port/Arrival- Departure.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

• Maintaining lifesaving equipment, including vessel lifeboats, ensuring that the equipment is kept in a constant state of readiness according to SOLAS requirements.
• Maintaining all firefighting appliances, including hoses, all breathing apparatus and extinguishers ensuring that such equipment is kept in a constant state of readiness according to SOLAS requirements.
• Reporting to the Chief Officer any deficiencies in the lifesaving and firefighting equipment which may affect the vessel’s safe operations.
• Maintaining Lights, Shapes, Flags, Halyards and Sound signaling apparatus.
• Keeping a protected navigational watch, as instructed by the master.
